J’arrive!

I’m writing this from my new desk in my new office of my new job in France. In case you are wondering, I now work for IRISA, a French research institute. My job title is ‘Expert Engineer’ and the project is about making meta-tools (toos for making tools for making software).

My UK mobile doesn’t roam — it was a cheap one from Tesco — so I’ll be getting a French one when I have a chance, watch this space. Email and blog comments most welcome!

    Happy new desk!

There’s always Skype unless it’s banned in your office (gets through firewalls generally though AFAIK).

Give us a Google Maps link of where you are so we can have a look around?

Best of luck in the new post, and in being back in the Francophone world.

BTW I think “J’arrive” is “I’m coming”, while “I’ve arrived” is “Je suis arrivé”

So this French is harder than it sounds.

Skype is officially banned. And I dont have control over this system (no root password) though apparently it is possible to opt out of central administration and install my own distro but then I Take on the responsibilities of an adiministrator as defined in the Charter on computer use that I had to sign. Currently I have a Fedora Core 4 desktop. Gaim works, there’s always Google chat!

Hot stuff, Mr Expert! Or should I say Dr. Expert? That wesite for you new company is surprisingly sparse on details…. you said you make ‘meta-tools’ for software… but for what? All in-house stuff? Or do you have projects with outside companies?

What about you’re new place? Do you like it?

    Hope all is well! #8)

check out bouygues’ carte nomad for your mobile. they had some nice pay as you go options when i was there, like double the minutes but they expire sooner or double the minutes if you sign up and listen to a short ad before you make a call.
